The CalWORKs program assists welfare recipient students and those in transition off of welfare to achieve long-term self-sufficiency through coordinated student services offered at community colleges including: work study, job placement, child care, coordination, curriculum development and redesign, and under certain conditions post- employment skills training, and instructional services.


The Oregon Student Assistance Commission offers two scholarships for student parents: The Oregon Student Childcare Grant, and the Ford Opportunity Scholarship Program for single parent heads of household.


LD 1774, An Act to Reduce Child Poverty by Leveraging Investments in Families for Tomorrow (LIFT), is a bill that was recently introduced before the Maine State Legislature which will expand opportunity, access and support for higher education for low-income Mainers.
